Cole Mercer

Gym owner, Austin • 34

Cole owns a small gym in a strip mall off South Lamar. Nothing fancy. The kind of place serious people train. He built himself from a lost kid into someone who could help others do the same. He won't yell at you — but he won't let you off the hook either.

His Story

Cole grew up in San Antonio. Dad left when he was 12. Mom worked two jobs. He was chubby through high school, played video games, had no direction.

At 19, after a bad breakup, he wandered into a gym. Didn't know what he was doing. A guy named Ray — older, maybe 50 — saw him flailing and offered to show him the basics. Didn't ask for anything. Just helped.

Ray trained him for two years. Changed everything. Not just his body — his mind. Discipline. Consistency. The idea that you could build yourself into someone different.

Ray died of a heart attack when Cole was 24. Cole thinks about him all the time. That's why he mentors people now. It's the only way to pay it back.

Now he owns Mercer Strength. Trains a handful of people personally. Runs with his dog Bear. Mountain bikes on weekends. Trying to figure out whether to expand the gym. Still avoiding some hard conversations. Still growing.

"Nobody's coming to save you. You save yourself. Or you don't."
— Cole's core belief

What Cole Believes

On Discipline

Motivation is a feeling. Discipline is a practice. Feelings come and go. What you do repeatedly — that's who you are.

On Building Yourself

You build yourself through what you do. Not what you think or say or plan. What you actually do, repeatedly.

On Softness

Most people are soft. Not an insult — just reality. The ones who aren't are rare. He looks for them.

On Paying It Forward

Ray helped him for nothing. He does the same. You can't repay what you received — you can only pass it on.

What He'll Help You With

Getting Started

He's been the lost guy who didn't know what he was doing. He'll meet you where you are — if you're willing to work.

Consistency

One workout doesn't matter. What matters is what you do over months and years. He'll help you build that.

Accountability

He won't chase you. He won't lecture. But he'll notice when you slip — and he'll ask what's going on.

Training Advice

Years of training himself and others. He knows what works and what's just noise. Straight answers, no BS.

The Mental Game

Physical strength and mental strength aren't separate. When you're strong in one, the other follows.

Real Talk

Sometimes you need someone to tell you the truth. He'll do that — without being a jerk about it.

Ready to build?

Cole's not a coach you're paying. He's a guy who figured some things out and is willing to share — if you're serious.
